We’re getting to know more of the team behind our product. This month I talk to Anže Matelič - a Frontend Developer with a passion for maps and geospatial technology.
Welcome to our monthly peek into the passions and motivations of the team here at Dodona Analytics!
In this monthly series I talk to different team members, and it's a pleasure to hear what drives them in their choice of career and expertise, as well as how they approach their time at a start up within such a fast-paced and developing market.
So, let’s meet Anže Matelič, a Frontend Developer working on the UI of the Dodona Analytics Charge Point Planning (CPP) platform.
Hi Anže! Thank you for your time today. Tell me a bit about what you do here at Dodona.
As a Frontend Developer it is my job to make sure that what the user sees and experiences of our product is functional, but also providing the optimal user experience. Right now I am mostly working on the user interface (UI), but sometimes I get my hands dirty with the backend too.
What inspired you to choose this career?
Tech has always been a passion and an interest of mine, and being able to contribute to a cleaner planet is a huge bonus. A key reason I took this role with Dodona Analytics, however, was because of the specific work with map APIs. I find this aspect intensely engaging - so much so that in my free time, I am working on a side project which mostly uses only maps.
What does your department do at Dodona?
Our department's responsibility is to make the UI user-friendly to the customers. So if you find any issues just report it to me. 🫡
What’s the most exciting thing that you are working on right now?
Right now I am mostly focused on the redesign and reimplementation of the new platform. So if you have seen the changes from the previous month, a lot of it was done by me.
What general career advice would you give to other professionals like you who are starting out, especially those wanting to work with a start-up?
I think for younger people I just recommend being open-minded and trying to explore/play with different technologies. Maybe even try something outside your field like algorithmic music creation or generative art.
What do you like to do outside Dodona?
Outside of Dodona, I enjoy exploring other cities. Right now I am staying in Poland in the eclectic city of Warsaw where I am meeting a lot of Ukranian and Belarusian which have migrated the last 3 years.
What are you reading, watching or playing that we should try?
Hmm now that I am traveling I said that I wanted to try something new so for the last month I have been practicing bachata (dancing classes). I highly recommend it - although like me, you might discover that some parts of your body aren’t the most flexible after some years of not stretching enough…!
Since I am more in the UI department I will nominate my colleague - our designer Matic Modic for next month's edition. Matic is a Product Designer, and his expertise inspires the very look and feel of our CPP (charge point planning) solution.
